Adirondack Community Trust (ACT) started in 1997. As a community foundation, the core idea of ACT is to help families, individuals and existing non-profit organizations maximize the impact of their gifts. Currently ACT manages around $25 million in 175 charitable funds supporting non-profit work across the Park. ACT’s activity in Keene is quite broad and increasing. Two of our key institutions have their endowments managed by ACT: the Neighborhood House and HPEF. Previously, Board members of these groups had to manage endowment funds, but it became clear that professional money managers, such as ACT uses, could do a better job and let the Boards focus on their organization’s mission and fund raising. Some families in town have set up charitable funds with ACT. The families direct annual distributions to non-profits of their choice, and someday, should they no longer be able to do so, ACT will direct distributions, in perpetuity, reflecting the wishes of the family. If you have ever thought about setting up a charitable fund for the long term benefit of our community, you should talk with ACT. They know how to do this well. |
