ADK, founded in 1922 and based in Lake George, lobbies in Albany, provides education, operates two lodges and publishes comprehensive trail guides for the entire Adirondack region, which can be purchased through its website or from local stores. It has 25 chapters and over 27,000 members.

ADK has two local chapters (Hurricane Mountain and Keene Valley) and operates Johns Brook Lodge. Jointly, and with ATIS, they offer outings throughout the year. Volunteers conduct trail and lean-to maintenance. Both need volunteers to lead outings and take on leadership roles.

The Hurricane Mountain Chapter, est. in 1947, has 450 members from 17 states and Canada. It publishes a newsletter and conducts workshops on outdoor activities. A scholarship fund supports children’s education. Monthly informal potluck dinners are held all year. An August potluck is their annual meeting.

The Keene Valley Chapter, est. in 1946, has 430 members from 20 states and Canada. It owns a lean-to on John's Brook for member use, publishes a newsletter, funds educational outings for KCS students, and supports environmental programs. The annual meeting and potluck is on the 2nd Saturday in August.

Johns Brook Lodge(JBL), 3.5 miles up the trail from the Garden, offers meals (in summer) and sleeping options that include family rooms, bunk rooms, lean-tos on the brook, and two cabins open all year. Facilities are open to anyone but need reservations. Gifts to ADK can be directed to support JBL.  See the ADK main website for more information.

The Adirondack Mountain Club has 27 chapters including two in the Town of Keene
