Founded in 1897, ATIS has over 300 member families. During July and August, its trained counselors typically run four hikes each weekday, as well as overnight trips for children 6 to 15. There is also one adult trip each weekday led by volunteers. ATIS also offers High Peaks Camp, a two-week residential program for 20 children aged 12 to 15 in June. True to its name, ATIS maintains 110 miles of trails in the area. It also organizes those evenings of Capture-the-Flag! July and August programs are both topped off by picnic suppers at the Lower Ausable Lake.

The annual budget is about $120,000, most of which comes from memberships and donations (they are always a little short on money). They also need volunteers to run adult hikes. Tony always has an equipment wish-list (call him and ask). So, go on a hike, lead an adult hike, work on the trail crew, go to a picnic, play capture-the-flag -- there are lots of ways to engage with ATIS.

Run by Executive Director Tony Goodwin, ATIS has an excellent web site with the summer schedule, a description of each trip, and much more. Additional information is posted on the ATIS bulletin board on the Ausable Club porch.
