This library was organized in 1885 and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. It has a collection of 15,000 books, videos, books on tape, newspapers and magazines, and provides high speed net access from five public PCs. It is fully automated, allowing you to search, reserve and renew books on-line, including books from 305 libraries in the Clinton, Essex, Franklin (CEF) Library System. Its summer Monday evening lecture series and new Thursday evening family program are popular. The KV Library supports KCS by purchasing books to meet curricular needs; lower grades typically visit weekly. It maintains a notable Alpine collection. The staffed Archives collection is a key resource for history of the town and the Adirondack Mountain Reserve. It is a place to find just the right book, bring children or grandchildren on a rainy day, research your ancestors, or just read the papers and share news with friends. Its budget is supported through the Annual Appeal, a summer benefit, yearly payments from the town, school and AMR, grants and its endowment. It also maintains a wish list on its web site seeking funds for specific projects. Donations are essential and determine what the library can do. The library depends on volunteers of all ages: working in the Archives, helping at the book sale, offering a lecture topic, lawn and garden care, snow shoveling, covering and shelving new books, helping with mailings, etc. Call Karen (or Pat for Archives work) to find out how to help. See the web site for hours and events. |
