Little Peaks Preschool offers three and four year-olds the chance to grow emotionally, socially and cognitively in a warm and supportive atmosphere, rooted in the greater Keene community. Since 1993 it has provided a morning preschool program and, now, about half the students at KCS are "graduates" of the Little Peaks program. It is a key support organization for families with young children in our town. Their morning program will expand beginning in September 2008. Choices will include a new 5 day per week option for four year olds and the traditional 2 or 3 day per week option for three and four year olds. During the summer, Little Peaks sponsors a morning program for 4 to 6 year olds. This "Wonders of the Woods" program is at KCS and the activities all take place around the beaver pond and woods in back of the school. The two teachers are the only paid staff. Helpful parents and volunteer grandparents are critical to its functioning. Tuition is set below cost and scholarships are offered in order to reach lower-income kids. This means funds collected as tuition only cover about half the budget. The community supports Little Peaks through an annual fund raising appeal and the town provides space for it in the Town Community Center on Church Street in Keene. |
