In 2007, the creative people behind Upper Jay Upholstery and The Recovery Lounge formed The Upper Jay Art Center, a new 501(c)(3). This place is turning into an important part of the art scene in our valley, while still retaining its special funkiness. Their successes are bringing them new attention, more energy, and now they need financial support.

The Recovery Lounge began with “no cover” music parties that attracted such a good audience that Scott now receives CD’s from bands all over the East. Next came the plays. Did you see “American Buffalo” ? Or maybe you caught “The Fisherman and The Moor” by Russell Banks, or “Below The Belt” by Richard Dresser. Then, in August 2007, Scott hosted the first annual “Art Party” showcasing over 40 local artists in all mediums, including Paul Matthews, Linda Fischer, Frank Owen, Chase Twichell, Jerilea Zemple, Terry Young, Roger Mitchell, Nathan Farb, Ben Stechshulte, Bruce Gunderson and Rebecca Soderholm.

The “Art Spirit” is alive and well in our enchanted valley and one of the places it has taken up residence is The Recovery Lounge. Now they need donations to help finance this ongoing project, which is dedicated to bringing cultural events to the North Country. It is their intention to try and remain a little under the radar. They will not be painting the building white, or putting up a new sign. But they would like to improve the restroom. And they promise to keep us guessing.

The Upper Jay Arts Center and the Recovery Lounge offer a wide variety of visual and performing arts throughout the year.
