Thanks to everyone for their concern. We have begun to assess the damage from the flood and begin the clean up. The valve that burst was upstairs but the water ran to the three downstairs rooms.  The Alpine Room with its rare books, the Mobil room with book sale books, and the storage room with paper products.

There are building issues and content issues.  Luckily the content issue is much less than was possible.  The water filled the map drawers and ran down a side of a book shelf and on the floor.  The maps were soaked but maps turn out to be pretty durable, even 100 year old maps!  And only about 20 books, out of almost 2000 are "lost".

The building issues are more extensive but more fixable.  The damage was part of the clean-up.  We had a wonderful flood recovery company.  They drilled holes in all the walls and floors and ran dehumidifiers and fans in the rooms, in the walls, and in the floor for 10 days.  It is DRY! No smell, no mold!  But now we have to paint, replace ceilings, fix walls.  We hope to have things back together by March.

We are accepting donations.  We do have insurance  but there is a thousand dollar deductable.  And there are things we need to do that are not covered by insurance.  I thank you for your concern and your offer to spread the word and help us get back in shape.   Though this has an impact on library business, we try and put it in perspective.  We think it could have been worse had it occurred a day earlier.  It would have then been gushing for more than 24 hours,  this was just about 2-6 hours of water......  and in the world picture,...........well we can fix what's broken so it's OK.
