Open Horizon with a double click – it takes a while to open up

Enter password and enter "Horizon Password is aware1 ( must be all lower case)"

Open the – circulation window with a double click

Open check in: CKI is on the left menu--it takes a while to open up

Open check out: CKO is on the left menu- – it takes a while to open up

Click the toggle workbook button so you can toggle between the check in and check out tabs (optional)

To View the full Screen go to View at the top of the screen, click View then click full screen. This will allow you to View the entire screen and eliminates scrolling up and down for menus

Checking out materials

To Check In

To CHECK IN – click the check in tab at the bottom of the screen (or CKI in the side bar menu) and scan the books. – If a block comes up you can not continue until you click on the check in tab again.

Be sure to see each item on the screen before proceding otherwise the item is NOT checked out!

Check out

To CHECK OUT – go to check out tab at the bottom of your screen, or (CKO at the sidebar menu)

Either scan the Patron’s card or find your borrower by going to the (Borrower Menu – find borrower, Type last name and enter)

When you find the borrower, double click on the borrower to open his/her account. Then Scan the books. If a block comes up you can not continue until you either pay the fine or click the CKO (check out) box within the block screen. If you click the checkout tab at the bottom of the screen, you lose your borrower. That tab clears the borrower field.

Changing a Due Date

If a patron will be gone or needs extra time with a book, you may extend the due date. Do not do this for NEW books.

After your book is checked out, go to the main menu and select ITEM, then edit. Here you can change the due date to anything you want. Remember to click save at the bottom when you are finished.

If there is no barcode

( magazines, interlibrary loans from non automated libraries, etc)

If there is no barcode, you must do a “Fast Add” Place a barcode on the back of the book, the front of the magazine, or if the book belongs to another library,

To Renew Books

In Check Out Mode - Go to the Borrower Menu (at the top of the screen) – Find Borrower or scan the Patron’s card

CKO menu at the top of the screen and click Renew All. – are items present, answer yes or no.

If you just want to see what items a Patron has out. Find the borrower go to the CKO menu and click on “all items out” and it will show you everything the borrower has out

To Pay a Fine

When you pull a Patron up and they have a fine you will get a block screen. When the block pops up to pay the fine click on payment and then OK.

OR you can find the borrower and under the borrower menu, you can select current blocks then hit payment button and OK

 

Requesting books from the desk computer

Requesting a book for a Patron

Go to the check out menu and find the patron and bring them up

Next press the F2 button (search) and find the item you want to request

Pull the item up, at the top of the screen click request then make a request

Make sure the item name and the patron name are correct scroll down and click request

You should receive a message if you were successful.

How to Find out who has a particular Item Out

Find the Item by using the F2 button- Click Show copies to make sure it is Willsboro’s copy that you are looking at – highlight the item- click on detail status and page down – the information should be under current borrower – page down again for prior circulation borrower.

Borrowers

Adding a New Borrower

Go to Check out screen

Go to the Borrower menu(at the top of the screen) and select new borrower. Fill in information. BE SURE TO GET AN E-MAIL ADDRESS WHEN POSSIBLE. Save when complete and then close. You must have a permanent address for patrons. For seasonal residents, please enter a Keene address in additiona to the permanent resident information.

Editing Borrower Records

In the check out screen, got to Borrower menu and select edit borrower, Change whatever is necessary use page down to move through the registration form. You can use the code buttons when applicable. BE SURE TO GET AN E-MAIL ADDRESS WHEN POSSIBLE. Save when complete

Power Failure

If the power goes out or in case of an electrical storm

Turn the computers off or if without power you can use the notebook on the holdshelf.. You only need last name, first name and the last two groups of numbers in the bar code. We can enter the data later when the power is up or the storm is over.

If the computer fails

If you happen to lose your connection with the internet, enter the data in a notebook.

(There is a notebook for this purpose on the hold shelf). Write the person’s name and card number if available. Then enter the bacode of each book under the patron’s name. THE BARCODE! NOT THE isbn on the back of the book. Easy to do, believe me. All the barcodes will begin 38787

If the scanner does not work

1. check to make sure cursor is in the write window

2. Make sure Number lock is lit (on)

3. Unplug the scanner from the back of the computer and re plug it in. Hear it beep.

4. If you do not have success, enter barcodes using keypad. Turn computer off and begin again.
