From time to time, people ask us what the library needs or wants that goes beyond our operating expenses. We are always grateful for donations to our operating expenses, but in addition we have prepared such a list. The figures accompanying the item are very general approximations. Keene Valley Library Wish List (October 2007)
- High-capacity, energy efficient, quieter, dehumidifier for the Archives. Must feature automatic shut-off. ($250.)
- Purchase 2 molded plastic light weight folding tables for use at book sales, kids' projects, etc. ($150 each)
- Replace all the PCs in the library ($TBD. State and Eastman Foundation supported)
- Purchase another matching computer table for the area by the back door. Repair existing computer tables as needed. ($500)
We have received a state grant for 50% of several projects:
- Storm windows for the alcove by the archives ($1200 total cost, $600 support needed))
- Replace fixed glass in the rear building with 2-layer insulated glass to make building more energy efficient ($29,000 total, $14,500 support needed)
- Remodel the bathroom for handicapped access and also the adjacent cleaner’s closet ($5000 total, $2500 support needed)
- Install motorized window openers in the cupola windows or an air conditioning system. (at least $5000)
- Remodel the alcove by the entrance to the archives turning it into a quiet place to read. ($2500 total, $1250 needed)
- Replace three PC’s that are now six years old along with six monitors. These machines are used for administration and the archives. ($5000 total, $2500 needed)
- Improved racks for magazines and newspapers. ($1500 total, $750 needed)
- Replace the ceiling tiles in the basement rooms (amount TBD)
This is what we accomplished from our wish list over the last year. Many thanks to everyone who helped:
- We have an excellent new PC projector and screen
- Reupholstered the old leather chair
- A new color copier is in the archives
- Scanning equipment introduced in the Archives
- The main door was re-hung to make handicapped access possible
- Replaced ceiling lighting in area with computers and the circulation desk
- Repaired the lights in the non-fiction area
- Replaced the furnace and set-back thermostats
- Installed gutters on the building

Funding in Progress:
Eastman Foundation (via Kim Smith) for funding to replace all library PCs, which are all 3-6 years old.
