LINKS
www.merlefest.org - This is the home site for Merlefest. If you're interested in finding out more about the festival or attending, start here.
http://www.docwatsonanddavidholt.com/ - When I did a Google search for Doc Watson, I came up with 41,000 hits. The Legacy album he recorded with David Holt is as good a place to start as any. Look here and in the new Merlefest site and then follow your fingers as you search and listen for more.
http://www.sambush.com/ - Sam Bush looks young, but is an old timer. He has been a leader in developing modern bluegrass sounds melding rock and pop with bluegrass.
http://www.skaggsfamilyrecords.com/ - Ricky Skaggs combines a deep respect for bluegrass traditions with lightning fast fingers and a great band. Here's a good place to start. Skaggs is an electrifying performer, even nearing midnight on a cold evening in the North Carolina hills.
http://www.asleepatthewheel.biz - Asleep at the Wheel plays western swing and pays homage to the late, great Bob Wills. They're electrifying to watch and great to listen to.
http://www.nittygritty.com/ - The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has been around for a long time. Their three volume project "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" brings younger artists together with the older greats to make sure bluegrass traditions continue.
http://www.leahymusic.com/ - Leahy is a Canadian band made up of eight brothers and sisters who put on a lively performance filled with fiddling, drumming and dancing. I can't speak for how they come across on disk, but they sure are exciting in performance.
http://www.thewhitefamilyministries.com - The White Family appeared at Merlefest as well as in the film "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" They sing old time gospel and are lively and funny. Emmylou Harris joined them for a song at Merlefest.
http://www.emmylou.net/ - Emmylou Harris sings sad songs better than anyone. At Merlefest she was generous with her appearances as well as with her audience. Her web site is big and interesting.
